Robbie & Jessi Orth
(January 2011 - present)
We are two people saved by God's grace and inspired by His creation. We believe in the healing power of good community, movement, nature, music, good food, growing, learning, animals, mushrooms..and the list flows on. All those things are knitted together by our belief in the healing power of Jesus. We feel blessed to be apprenticing at Quiet Creek under the mentorship of Rusty and Claire. We came to Quiet Creek with the intent to stay 1 year and we are now looking forward to stewarding the farm for a portion of 2012. We are constantly learning things that influence and change our lives. Jessi: One of my personal favorites on the farm is the sawdust composting toilet. Yes, there are prettier jobs on the farm than cleaning out the humanure buckets but to go from the "flush it away, let someone else deal with it" mentality to bringing an often overlooked aspect of life into the cycle of sustainability is a major victory! Robbie: I think I would dedicate most of the year's smiling to harvesting the best food of my life, from beets in the Hi-tunnel to mushrooms from a nearby forest floor, to homemade sourdough bread. The past year was filled with knowledge on growing it, fermenting it, digging it, or learning how to find it (my favorite!!!!)
